He traveled back to Nazareth for a Sabbath
Jesus followers being present kept the threats at a murmur, but attenders were astonished – trying to figure out how this nobody (whose family everyone knew) was doing and speaking unbelievable things. They were offended at him.
Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country (among his own relatives), and in his own house.” He couldn’t do great things there, because of their unbelief. He did touch some sick people with his hands, and healed them. He marveled because of their unbelief, and then he visited the villages teaching.
Herod himself sent out and arrested John
In an effort to make us all feel a little better about our political system, allow a quick overview of scenario which lead to John the Baptist being murdered.
- The “Herod the Great” who had killed all children under 2 years old at Jesus birth had died 30 years ago.
- Before he died, he killed his two sons for trying to poison him, which orphaned the girl Herodias who married her uncle Herod II (they lived in Rome).
- Herod Antipas (The “King Herod” in this story) had married the daughter of the kingdom between Judah and Egypt named The Nabataean Kingdom.
- Herod Antipas stayed with his brother Herod II on a trip to Rome, and decided he and Herodias (his brother’s wife) were in love.
- Antipas divorced his first wife Phasaelis, and married Herodias.
- John the Baptist called out this relationship as against God’s law, and that made is very uncomfortable for Herodias to be called a slut… publicly.
Herod Antipas was having a party and his wife’s daughter was asked to dance, and turned on her father-in-law so much that he offered her to be his wife (aka. have half of his kingdom). He swore he’d give her whatever she asked.
- As this girl ran out of the room to her mom (who couldn’t have been too happy at her husband asking her daughter to marry him), directed her to ask for the head of John the Baptist on a plate.
- Herod Antipas killed John and presented John’s severed head to this girl, and she brought it to her mom.
- Once John’s followers heard what happened, they retrieved and buried his body, and told Jesus.
- When Jesus heard about this, he left in a boat and spent time off by himself.
Afterward, when Herod heard about Jesus…
he was convinced it was John the Baptist. He believed that the only reason Jesus had such incredible power was that he had come back from the dead and brought these powers with him.

DEDUCTIONS FROM OBSERVATIONS
THROUGHOUT HUMAN HISTORY, WE’VE PLACED OURSELVES AT THE CENTER OF “EVERYTHING”… And; we have typically been incorrect in that placement. TO THINK OF THIS BIOLOGICAL UNIVERSE AS ONE OF MANY “BIG BANGS” IS MOST LIKELY CLOSER TO REALITY. Deduction following the scientific method is no more perfect than any other world-view, but we do haveContinue reading “DEDUCTIONS FROM OBSERVATIONS”

ARCHAEOLOGY
Most every factual story has some type of archaeological foundation. The thing we seem to get hung up on is the celebrity mythology attached to each story. “Myth is the smoke of history. It may take a good bit of work to fan it into flame, but it is best when you see smoke… toContinue reading “ARCHAEOLOGY”

SCIENTIFIC OBSERVATION OVERVIEW
TRUTH IS SEGMENTED BY METHOD OF OBSERVATION AND/OR DEDUCTION USED TO GATHER THE INFORMATION. We are in the beginning of the 6th mass extinction of species that this planet has experienced. It may be wise to try and figure out what happened the last five times… maybe?!? The blue graph shows the apparent percentage (notContinue reading “SCIENTIFIC OBSERVATION OVERVIEW”

DEAD SEA SCROLLS – 2000 YEAR OLD TEXT MATCHING THE BIBLE
The initial discovery of the first of these “Dead Sea Scrolls” was being examined by a Jewish scholar while the United Nations was voting for the Jewish people to live in Abraham’s promised land (under their own rule)… for the first time since the destruction of the Jerusalem’s Temple – in 70 AD! The Dead SeaContinue reading “DEAD SEA SCROLLS – 2000 YEAR OLD TEXT MATCHING THE BIBLE”

Daniel Part 1 – Let the reader understand
Having just completed a project requiring over a decade of research on the four Gospels of Jesus, there is one point in Matthew and Mark which has been festering in my mind for years. At the same point in these two of the gospel stories that both writers specifically direct, “let the reader understand.” And…Continue reading “Daniel Part 1 – Let the reader understand”

Jesus fan fiction 20 – John the Baptist story from Luke 3, spoken from the perspective of a patriotic Roman
I remember feeling the sticky on the bottom of my feet with each step as I left our city’s stadium with my parents explaining (again) that every culture across time has included people shouting that God’s judgment is coming, just like the man yelling at us. The people they claim to be doomed are notContinue reading “Jesus fan fiction 20 – John the Baptist story from Luke 3, spoken from the perspective of a patriotic Roman”

They say God’s coming?
Many Americans are new to dealing with the scare tactics which religious, fear-based leaders use to solidify their position of power by using “the world is ending… are you ready?” Remember, these people use this tactic to make money and feel powerful… nothing else. Anyone who claims they have an inside track on whenContinue reading “They say God’s coming?”

CHRISTIAN SCRIPTURES
“The Bible” (“tà biblía“) is Koine Greek for, “the books” (?? ??????)[1][a], and it is a collection of sacred texts or “scriptures”. HIDDEN BOOKS – APOCRYPHA
The biblical apocrypha (from the Greek ?????????, apókruphos, meaning “hidden”) references the collection of ancient christian books. APOCRYPHA BOOKS: Although the term apocrypha had been in use since the 5th century, it was in Luther’s Bible of 1534 that the Apocrypha was first published as a separate intertestamental section. Books like the MacccabeesContinue reading “HIDDEN BOOKS – APOCRYPHA”
