Jesus fan fiction 7 – 1st Sabbath in Capernaum

The 1st Sabbath in his new hometown;

Everyone was amazed, because Jesus spoke with authority.

A man challenged, “Ha! What do you want? Jesus, you… ‘Nazarene?’ Have you come to destroy us? I know you who you are: The Holy One of God!” Jesus scolded him to, “Be quiet, and come out of him!”, and screaming – the heckler fell down in the middle of the room… but the man wasn’t hurt.

People questioned to themselves, and through their confusion, “…with authority and power he commands evil spirits (and they obey him)?”

Peters house - or the ruins thereofHome from church in Peter’s house

they found his mother-in-law laying down, sick with a high fever. Jesus scolded the fever while standing over her, and it left her. He helped her up by the hand, and she got up and served them.

By sunset sick people showed up from everywhere; Jesus healed them all. Evil spirits came out of many people, crying, “You are the Chosen-One, the Son of God!” He scolded them, and didn’t let them speak.

Jesus gave the order to go to the other side of the sea,

and a public servant approached, saying, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” Jesus replied, “Foxes have holes, and flying birds have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”

Another follower said, “Powerful-One, first let me go and bury my father.” But Jesus answered, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead”, and he got into a boat with his followers.picture of jesus sleeping in the boat as his disciples we fighting a storm crossing the sea of galilee

A violent storm hit with waves covering the boat, but…

Jesus was asleep! They woke him up in a panic, “Save us, Powerful-One! We’re gonna die!” He answered, “Why are you afraid; you with little faith?” Then he got up, and scolded the wind and the sea!  Before any of us could figure out if he was kidding or doing another parable – there was a great calm. The sound was quiet, and wind was clam, and sprays of mist… had stopped.

We marveled, asking, “What kind of man is this?  That… even the wind and the sea obey him?”

Having traveled from the northern beaches to the most southwest point of pigs running into water and two men meet jesus in gadarenethe Sea of Galilee, it was still not time to call it a night. We were greeted by pig hearders… and their pigs.  It was understandable that they were out here at that time of night, because these shores weren’t safe.

Two crazy fierce men with evil spirits notoriously terrorized these shores. As we approached; those very men cried out, “What do you want with us?  Jesus!?!  Son of God”.  With execration that reflected their origin, they threw their first jab, “Are you here to torture us (before the time)?” Then, as if dawning a new idea to save them all a big hassle, announced, “If you throw us out… send us into… these pigs.”

Jesus said, “Go”, and as if the pigs knew their cue, they ran down the bank into the water (and died). We were flabbergast. First the storm, and now the pigs. The pig’s herders ran into the city, and told everything about the pigs – and evil possessed men.

Everyone came out to Jesus, and spewed blind fear all over us – begging him to leave their state.

News about him spread everywhere, and none of them knew the half of it.

CLARIFIED

WORDING:

  • “come under my roof” is replaced with “enter my house”
  • “Most Certainly“ is the phrase used in this translation, but other versions use, “Verily, verily”, “Very Truly”, “Most assuredly”, etc.. The use of a repeated word used here would probably best be translated as “Amen, amen”, but since this word marks our modern Pharisaical trumpet (at the end of our prayers), it also is not an culturally understandable term. Amen is a confirmation of truth, and the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. This Spirit was in Joshua after his baptism, and was planted here (through Joshua’s death), and now lives inside each of his followers. “Truth’s truth” is the cultural paraphrase used in this story. Feel free to look up Strongs #g281 (link to Blue Letter Bible)
  • “that“ is replaced with a semi-colon (“;”). It seems that getting rid of that “that” is the purpose of something like a semi-colon. It’s even spelled like an afterthought. It seems; semi-colons add clarity (too much? maybe).
  • “but” is replaced with “however” in a new sentence. This fits contextually.
  • Let it be done for you as you have believed” is replaced with “Allow what you have believed to be done for you”
  • Rebuke” replaced with “scolded.” We don’t rebuke in my culture. If someone used “rebuke” on daily life… the response would be, “what do you mean?”
  • “Centurion” is replaced with “Army Commander”, and “Officer.” Both roles were a part of this “Commander of 100.”
  • Christ” is Greek for “Chosen One“. It is true that the actual term is “Anointed One”, but to anoint means to smear or wipe… which anymore is a bio-hazard. This individual was anointed because that way the method with which designation was communicated – washed with oil. This action signified what King Arthur’s sword pulled out of the stone signified; a choosing of that individual.
  • Depart” is changed to “go”
  • “The foxes have holes, and the birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” paraphrased for clarity sake to “Foxes have holes, and flying birds have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”
  • disciple” is a “follower
  • Scribe” is closest to a “public servant”
  • “fearful” is replaced with “afraid.” Same meaning but the replacement word is used more in my world.
  • “Demons” is replaced with “evil spirits.”

DEDUCTIONS FROM OBSERVATIONS

THROUGHOUT HUMAN HISTORY, WE’VE PLACED OURSELVES AT THE CENTER OF “EVERYTHING”… And; we have typically been incorrect in that placement. TO THINK OF THIS BIOLOGICAL UNIVERSE AS ONE OF MANY “BIG BANGS” IS MOST LIKELY CLOSER TO REALITY. ARCHAEOLOGY

Most every factual story has some type of archaeological foundation. The thing we seem to get hung up on is the celebrity mythology attached to each story. “Myth is the smoke of history. SCIENTIFIC OBSERVATION OVERVIEW

TRUTH IS SEGMENTED BY METHOD OF OBSERVATION AND/OR DEDUCTION USED TO GATHER THE INFORMATION.   We are in the beginning of the 6th mass extinction of species that this planet has experienced. DEAD SEA SCROLLS – 2000 YEAR OLD TEXT MATCHING THE BIBLE

The initial discovery of the first of these “Dead Sea Scrolls” was being examined by a Jewish scholar while the United Nations was voting for the Jewish people to live in Abraham’s promised land (under their own rule)… for the first time since the destruction of the Jerusalem’s Temple – in 70 AD! Daniel Part 1 – Let the reader understand

Having just completed a project requiring over a decade of research on the four Gospels of Jesus, there is one point in Matthew and Mark which has been festering in my mind for years. At the same point in these two of the gospel stories that both writers specifically direct, “let the reader understand.” And…Continue reading “Daniel Part 1 – Let the reader understand”

Jesus fan fiction 20 – John the Baptist story from Luke 3, spoken from the perspective of a patriotic Roman

I remember feeling the sticky on the bottom of my feet with each step as I left our city’s stadium with my parents explaining (again) that every culture across time has included people shouting that God’s judgment is coming, just like the man yelling at us. The people they claim to be doomed are notContinue reading “Jesus fan fiction 20 – John the Baptist story from Luke 3, spoken from the perspective of a patriotic Roman”

They say God’s coming?

Many Americans are new to dealing with the scare tactics which religious, fear-based leaders use to solidify their position of power by using “the world is ending… are you ready?”  Remember, these people use this tactic to make money and feel powerful… nothing else.   Anyone who claims they have an inside track on whenContinue reading “They say God’s coming?”

The biblical apocrypha (from the Greek ?????????, apókruphos, meaning “hidden”) references the collection of ancient christian books.     APOCRYPHA BOOKS: Although the term apocrypha had been in use since the 5th century, it was in Luther’s Bible of 1534 that the Apocrypha was first published as a separate intertestamental section.
