Jesus fan fiction 8 – Around the sea, and back again

man with leprosy in ancient text

Early the next morning,

lossy-page1-640px-Rural_scene_on_edge_of_village_of_Hattin_LOC_matpc.16455.tif

he got up before sunrise and went off by himself. Finding him; Peter passed on the crowd’s demands for Jesus, and he said to them, “Let’s go to other towns. I must speak-out the good news of God’s Kingdom to the other cities also. This is why I have been sent.”

In one town,

a man with leprosy fell on his face worshiping Jesus, and said, “Powerful-One, if you want to, you can make me clean.” Jesus touched him and said, “I want to.” Then as if Jesus was splashing him with freedom, said, “Be made clean.” The leprosy left him immediately, and Jesus instructed him, “Don’t tell anyone! Show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift Moses commanded for your cleansing (as a proof for them).”

Jesus sent him away immediately, and it seemed like that healed man made a conscious choice to do the opposite of what Jesus had instructed.

From then on

Jesus couldn’t openly enter anywhere without people coming from everywhere to hear him (and bringing the sick to be healed).

Even still, Jesus always seemed to end up out by nowhere (away from the crowds) – alone in deserted places.

A few days later, he crossed back over by boat to his hometown (Capernaum).

Everyone made it into the house without being accosted, but it wasn’t long until there were people filling the house – and even standing in the doors and around the outside… all the while, Jesus was so content he seemed almost playful; teaching and healing.

Picture of man being lowered through the roof to Jesus in CapernaumIt was at this point that four people carried a paralyzed man onto Simon’s roof, tore a hole in the roof, because they were determined to get their friend in front of Jesus. On top of the house (with the cripple man, and his cot), they took apart enough of the roof to allow them to lower their friend (while he was laying on his cot) until he was in front of Jesus. After this had all played out, Jesus replied, “Cheer up son, your sins are forgiven”

The religious experts and leaders present rippled with scoffs and questions, that turned from a murmur into side conversations.  Quoting scriptures and accusing Jesus of blaspheming God, and asking, “Who can forgive wrongs, except God alone?!?”

Jesus answered, “Why do you think these evil things in your hearts? So… which is easier; to tell the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven’ or to say, ‘Get up; Take your bed and walk?’ But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins…” (then the spoke to the paralyzed man) and said clearly and publicly, “I tell you; get up and pick up your mat, and go home.”

At that moment, the electricity in the air sparkled as hairs stood up on skin.  The man who was lowered through the roof on his cot, stood up. Then he reached down, and picked up his bed he had been lowered on, and people parted with awe. The healed man walked out in front of everyone in the house (praising God).

Those who require God to fit into their religion, were left fondling their fear.

DEDUCTIONS FROM OBSERVATIONS

THROUGHOUT HUMAN HISTORY, WE’VE PLACED OURSELVES AT THE CENTER OF “EVERYTHING”… And; we have typically been incorrect in that placement. TO THINK OF THIS BIOLOGICAL UNIVERSE AS ONE OF MANY “BIG BANGS” IS MOST LIKELY CLOSER TO REALITY. Deduction following the scientific method is no more perfect than any other world-view, but we do haveContinue reading “DEDUCTIONS FROM OBSERVATIONS”

ARCHAEOLOGY

Most every factual story has some type of archaeological foundation. The thing we seem to get hung up on is the celebrity mythology attached to each story. “Myth is the smoke of history. It may take a good bit of work to fan it into flame, but it is best when you see smoke… toContinue reading “ARCHAEOLOGY”

SCIENTIFIC OBSERVATION OVERVIEW

TRUTH IS SEGMENTED BY METHOD OF OBSERVATION AND/OR DEDUCTION USED TO GATHER THE INFORMATION.   We are in the beginning of the 6th mass extinction of species that this planet has experienced. DEAD SEA SCROLLS – 2000 YEAR OLD TEXT MATCHING THE BIBLE

The initial discovery of the first of these “Dead Sea Scrolls” was being examined by a Jewish scholar while the United Nations was voting for the Jewish people to live in Abraham’s promised land (under their own rule)… for the first time since the destruction of the Jerusalem’s Temple – in 70 AD! Daniel Part 1 – Let the reader understand

Having just completed a project requiring over a decade of research on the four Gospels of Jesus, there is one point in Matthew and Mark which has been festering in my mind for years. At the same point in these two of the gospel stories that both writers specifically direct, “let the reader understand.” And…Continue reading “Daniel Part 1 – Let the reader understand”

Jesus fan fiction 20 – John the Baptist story from Luke 3, spoken from the perspective of a patriotic Roman

I remember feeling the sticky on the bottom of my feet with each step as I left our city’s stadium with my parents explaining (again) that every culture across time has included people shouting that God’s judgment is coming, just like the man yelling at us. The people they claim to be doomed are notContinue reading “Jesus fan fiction 20 – John the Baptist story from Luke 3, spoken from the perspective of a patriotic Roman”

They say God’s coming?

Many Americans are new to dealing with the scare tactics which religious, fear-based leaders use to solidify their position of power by using “the world is ending… are you ready?”  Remember, these people use this tactic to make money and feel powerful… nothing else.   Anyone who claims they have an inside track on whenContinue reading “They say God’s coming?”

The biblical apocrypha (from the Greek ?????????, apókruphos, meaning “hidden”) references the collection of ancient christian books.     APOCRYPHA BOOKS: Although the term apocrypha had been in use since the 5th century, it was in Luther’s Bible of 1534 that the Apocrypha was first published as a separate intertestamental section.
